Sharing the Warmth Pajama Drive

Many residents in local nursing or assisted living homes are in need of many of life’s basic necessities, either because they cannot afford them, or have no one to shop for them. Every year VOICES, Inc. collects pajamas, gowns, robes and blankets for these residents. A makeshift “store” is set up in the nursing homes and assisted living centers where residents can shop, free of charge, for much-appreciated items. (Items are also delivered to residents who are unable to leave their rooms.) Small gifts make a dramatic impact. Last year, a frail elderly woman, grinning from ear to ear, hugged her new fluffy pink robe like it was a puppy. Staff members had tears in their eyes as they listened to a gentleman, normally in his own little world, talk and talk about his new flannel pajamas.  It is amazing how something so simple can bring such warmth and joy to the lives of others!

You can be a part of Sharing the Warmth Pajama Drive by donating new or like-new sleepwear and blankets.

Donations were accepted from February 10th – February 28th at all Don’s Claytons Fine Dry Cleaning locations in Evansville, both Deaconess Hospital locations and Deaconess Clinic Downtown.  VOICES Board of Directors and volunteers distributed these donations to area nursing home residents in the form of a “Pajama Store” where folks could “shop” for their new pajamas!
